The Family Gal Journalhas moved! Now powered by WordPress
View munchikin pictures at Pictures of Valerie* Yeah, this journal is moving. At the end of the month, this page will cease to exist as these entries are moved to the archives. WordPress is just so much easier to use, more convenient, faster, etc. that it's silly to keep doing my weblog the way I have been. So go on over to the new Family Gal Journal, and enjoy!
* The journal may be moving. I'm trying out Wordpress, which can do everything I want in a weblog if I can just figure out how to do it. It's free, which is a very good thing for me right now. But it seems to be quite full-featured and have quite a bit of support.
* I fed Valerie rice cereal. It was hilarious! But she actually kept most of it in her mouth, and before long she was sucking it right off the spoon. That's not to say that it wasn't messy! But she was obviously ready to start solids.
* Ah, June. It's my favorite month, mostly because my birthday is in it, on the solstice. But I also like the weather, just starting to get hot but still cool at night, with random thunderstorms. One of these years, I'm gonna have a proper bonfire for the solstice complete with weenie roast. Not with the munchkin having to be fed so often, though. She's actually playing happily in the floor, and she's been relatively calm all day. She's discovered noisemaking toys, unfortunately. Of course she loves them. The only ones I have at our house have off switches, thank heavens! The teeth are very close to breaking through, although if she takes after my sister's kids, it will take a ridiculously long time to see them when they do come through.
* Did you have a good Memorial Day?

Tasty Toes
* I waggle the elephant at you! Sometimes that even works. For baby calming, that is. The teething is actually not as bad as I was afraid it would be; she's just more easily irritated than usual. She's also discovered that she can lay on her tummy, prop herself up on one elbow, and play with a toy with the free arm. Not that she likes being on her tummy all that much, but at least she doesn't get mad as quickly now. She's getting so big, I feel so lucky to be home with her while she changes so much. Except, of course, when she's screaming...
* Sometimes the husband is so annoying! He hid from me when he got up today. I ended up looking all over the house. It's just unnerving to know that there's someone in your house and not know where they are, even if they belong there. Actually, it's oddly romantic that he likes to do things to drive me crazy. I married him partly for his playfulness.
* Valerie is teething. Two teeth at once, actually, on either side of her mouth. It isn't as bad as colic, but she is pretty crabby. We've been trying teethers, cold washcloths, and baby orajel. Luckily, she's been napping more than usual. Me, too. Naps are good. :) When not napping, she gnaws on things, plays in the floor on her 'nap mat', babbles, tries to sit up, rolls over, and grabs any handy cats. And Daddy's face, too. She picks things up so precisely, small things with first finger and thumb and bigger things with her whole hand or both hands, in the case of her horsie toy.
* So, I was kinda getting sick of my hair. I got a perm yesterday. It's a little funky; that's a hazard of doing anything to my willful hair. With any luck it will eventually arrange itself in a pleasing manner, but I'm not holding my breath.
We went to Lonoke for Mother's Day, which is only about three hours away. Oh, Valerie was good, slept most of the time in the car and behaved well at the husband's aunt's house. That's one happy baby, let me tell you! She likes people, too. She's been quite drooly, which may mean teething, but none of my family got any teeth before five months and most of us more like six or seven months old.
* Wow, I'm tired.

All our cats
* Our lives are taking a predictable shape.

She'll be talking soon
* My family trekked across the state to the old homestead last week; Mom, Dad, my sister and her three kids, and Valerie and I. Mom and Dad went to pack up everything preparatory to selling the house, us girls went to visit and help a little. Valerie got to see her other grandparents, which just isn't going to happen as often as I'd like. Oh yeah, don't make a 300-mile car trip with a baby who has just had her shots, if at all avoidable. She's actually rather good in the car, but she got very hot and fussy in spite of the Tylenol.
